The story of Anne, the bravest gal I know

Posted on Sep 8th, 2007 by Missy : melibee Missy
On Sunday, Sept 9th, I will be walking with my childhood friend Anne Chemi in the Susan G Komen "Race for the Cure" breast cancer walk in NY City's Central Park.  Anne is 39 and was diagnosed this year with breast cancer, resulting in a double mastectomy. She has more surgery ahead later this year and will fly to Boston again from her home in Alaska for more treatment.
Our team is called "Alaskan Anne's Chemi-Therapy" - a play on "chemo-therapy", which she thankfully did not need at this stage in her recovery. Anne's perspective is this: Her "Chemi-Therapy" is the love and support that she received from family, friends and complete strangers. A man that she works with, but hardly knows, donated his frequent flier miles so she could fly to NY from Alaska for this empowering walk.  Tony and I set up a web site for her (www.annechemi.org - check it out to send her well wishes and read her story in more detail.) People have donated hundreds of dollars to help her with expenses related to her illness. Anne's outlook on life, even before her diagnosis, has always been positive. She is an adventurous woman and watching her go through this health crisis with such strength and composure has been truly humbling.

If you'd like to donate to team "Alaskan Anne's Chemi Therapy" , our web site is:

And if you'd simply like to read Anne's story and send her some supportive words of wisdom or just a virtual hug (and who can't use them every so often!), please visit www.annechemi.org  .  I thank you in advance for caring about my dear childhood friend. She is a unique and beautiful woman and has taught me a lot in the 29 years that I've been blessed to call her a friend.

May good health and serenity bless each and every one of you.
